I do that too! I have a small collection on tiny safety pins in my jewellery box just for this purpose.
I recently discovered you can buy black safety pins. I found them on ebay. The haberdasheries I tried didn’t have them.
Another solution to this problem is having a few black vests/cardis with lace at the neckline.
