My Hen Weekend Essentials

21 Jun

So, this weekend was my sister’s Hen Do. I usually associate Hen Do’s with a lot of drinking, inflatable willies and maybe a stripper but oh no, this was much much more…

We started at 0845 when my sister’s fiance drove us to Southampton to Go Ape, a tree swinging ladder climbing extravaganza. I decided to pack my 36H Freya Active Underwire sports bra, and when I turned up and saw what lay ahead I was glad I did. Zip wires, jumping into nets, crawling through tunnels – not great activities if you have to constantly worry about tucking your boobs back in or holding them in place.

What’s great about this sports bra is that it doesn’t give that pointy boob look that some can, and whilst I am not one to be overly vain whilst working out, this is not a look I feel happy with rocking:

This is how the bra looked on me:

Having 4 sets of hooks and eyes is great for peace of mind and you feel very secure. This bra does come up very tight in the band and despite being a 34HH/J in most Freya products, I found that this in a 36H was the perfect mix of comfort and support. Here is a little montage to show what happens when being active in the bra (and by active I mean ‘jumping off my sofa’)

(yes those are my chins)
As you can see there is some movement but they still remain safe inside – a fabulous sports bra through and through.

After some pottery painting:

and belly dancing:

It was time to get ready to go out! As I was opting for a tight dress I decided to try out my new Maidenform Shapewear. I decided to try this one out as it had shorts attached and I was finding my other shapewear that had just a skirt attached a bit annoying as it would roll up and look a bit unsightly. I was apprehensive to try this one out as I feared that the shorts would cut into my not-so-tiny thighs – but it fitted like a dream:

And as the night progressed and the willy shaped objects came out:

and I started to get tipsy it was a joy to not have to worry about adjusting my shapewear. The only problem was…using the loo as it has an overlapped hole to allow you to go without stripping, but it did feel like you were still fully dressed…however, it is still the best piece of shapewear I have ever worn and I felt happy and confident all night.

We finished the weekend with a trip to a spa the next day, and after my aching muscles were pleasantly pulverized by a lovely masseuse I went for a swim and some time in the steam room in my trusty 38G/16 Azure Poir Moi dark blue bikini.

It is rather loose in the back but perfect in the cup – a bikini to sunbathe in but not jet ski! I WISH Pour Moi would make bigger cup sizes but for now it still remains the best bikini I have ever owned. I am considering getting a tankini version for those days when I want a bit more coverage and I own this in turquoise as well. I prefer the tie side pants and clip back bikini to the turquoise version in which I got a tie bikini and regular bottoms but that’s just me.

All in all a perfect weekend ❀

I too am a fan of the maiden form shapewear, although hadn’t thought of putting it under my bra (nice move there!) I haven’t yet come up with a good answer to the ‘peeing issue’, I didn’t feel confident with the flaps so opted for taking the whole thing off in the loo each time I went! I still love it though.

Oh yes, the taking it all off did happen thanks to what you told me, my Mum made comments about how long I spent in the loo πŸ˜‰ xxx

Lovely post. It was like a written advertisement and I enjoyed every word of it.

Shame the Azure Poir Moi bikini no longer comes in that color :(.

I have a couple of these bodyshapers mine however don’t have the legs so just shaped like knickers, these have hook and eyes underneath which is just as awkward, I just pull it all to the side! I love these though and are really comfortable. I also have Spanx with legs and a flap, trouble with these is they ride down my back and start to feel uncomfortable if I haven’t got anyone about to help me in to them!
Good idea tho george putting your bra over the top, I hadn’t thought of that so woll give it a try x

I love Go Ape, but boyyy do you need a sports bra!

After reading your “review” of Freya Active I actually bought one! πŸ™‚
I think it’s OK in the band but I’m used to wear my bras quite tight in the band. I found the cups being a little small with some minor bulging on top. I bought 38FF (have Deco in 38G but Tigertail bikini in 38FF). In your opinion how much to you think the difference is between two cup sizes when NOT changing the band size? 38 is the largest band size in the model with underwires.
Can’t decide whether I shall buy Active in 38G or 38GG.

Getting total nuts when trying to buy bras over the net from another country. The shipping times and charges makes it not really worth to return the products for an exchange but it’s hard when you don’t have the possibility to compare the same bra in different sizes. Still prefer to shop on the net from UK since the prices are at least half price (retail price) compared to a online shop in Sweden. UK also have quite low shipping charges and bigger selection of bras. If I came across a bra in my size I would at least have to pay Β£50-60 in a store. 😦

I still haven’t decide my size in this bra yet. The shoulder bands are very short (I have them on maximum length already) but i like the bra straps getting wider on top. I’m 5″10 so quite tall and maybe that’s the problem in this case.
The Freya Active seems to be a very good bra so I will try to get the right fit. I’ve tried the Enell sports bra which is the only bra that keeps the breasts from moving, but since it’s a sturdy compression bra it gets very, very hot.

I have read the reviews on Bravissimo but I also frequently use Herroom.com since they have more pictures and almost every person who leaves feedback also write down their bra size. *thumbs up*

Left to try is Active without the wires but I really like wires and haven’t bought a non-wired bra since I was 16, for 20 years ago or so (except the Enell bra).

Will do some heavy gardening and building a fence today so maybe I get the answer on my sizing problems later tonight. πŸ˜‰

BTW: I double checked my Freya Tigertail bikini and it’s a 38G.

I also have the solution for the ‘peeing issue’ when wearing shape wear.
The product was designed for active women and mainly outdoor use but who cares if it works on other occasions? πŸ˜€

Haha, there is no way I could take that clubbing!x

    • Jenna November 22, 2012 at 12.53 #

There are disposable paper ones for going camping, etc. MUCH easier to take clubbing. I’ll see if I can find a link, but that’s what I use with the SPANX flaps.

How does the sizing work in the Maidenform shapewear? I looked on their website but the Sizing Guide link on the item opened a window telling me about how to measure up for a bra 😦

    • fullerfigurefullerbust October 2, 2011 at 12.53 #

Hmm, well I went for an XL just because I am 16/18 in stretchy things minus the boobs, as my shapewear was, and I do grunt, groan and struggle to get it on but it works. I measure 48inches around the hips if that helps x

Love the sports bra…it looks very supportive.

How come you were the bra under the shapewear? any specific reason?

    • Calle Thomas October 28, 2011 at 12.53 #

I mean wear the bra OVER the shapewear…sorry

      • fullerfigurefullerbust October 28, 2011 at 12.53 #

I just find it more comfortable and less revealing under tight dresses x

Totally random and nothing to do with ths post, but what does the tattoo on your right side say?

One of my fave songs and quotes πŸ™‚

  12. Gill November 22, 2012 at 12.53 #

I wear shapewear under bras too.. I find that with it being tucked under the underwire, it helps it holds to hold them up and keeps the lines smooth, rather than the top rolling down and having an unsightly buldge. Going to look into the Freya sports bra πŸ™‚ x

I have that azure bikini too in purple but had mine altered from 32F to 30FF/G and got a clasp made on the back it’s really a great improvement I must say but I find the neckties a bit too long and if I wear it too long it’s gonna be a pain in the neck but love it too much to not wear it at all but still most freya bikini’s are designed with better support.
Also I love how supportive the freya active is too but its a bit pointy indeed. But they are great for even intensive bouncing sports like horseriding and running.

I was looking into buying the same bikini top from Pour Moi in 38F which is my bra size, I saw that you said your bra size is a 34HH/J but you got a 38G for the top, should i go up a size too? maybe a 36FF?
